Johnson points at your bruised face and gives you a wry look, “I see you’ve been introduced to the movement.”
“Sarah,” you ignore her goading. “I want to understand this. I need you to talk straight with me.”
Johnson takes a moment to size you up before saying, “It’s simple. Justice for Palestine means liberation for all.”
“That’s just a slogan,” you push back. “Do our students really believe this movement is linked to some wider struggle?”
“Why don’t you ask them yourself, Dr. Newsom?” Johnson signals to two nearby undergrads. They’re young and extravagantly attired with dyed hair partially hidden beneath keffiyehs. They pull chairs over and sit down.
