After speaking with the students for about twenty minutes. “If you want my support, then you’re going to have to convince me.”
The first student accepts your challenge, “Free speech is a fundamental principle of academic institutions, right?”
“OK.” The bruise on your forehead is throbbing. “You’ve got my attention.”
The second student seizes on the idea. “So, you must support diverse views because they enhance cultural and political awareness.”
“Don’t you see?” Johnson's eyes plead for understanding. “By supporting diverse viewpoints, you ensure that Faulkner remains vibrant and inclusive.”
“You’re playing with fire here, Sarah.” You lift a finger to the butterfly stitches at your temple. “But I also believe that more people will be served by letting you speak than will be harmed by violence.”
“So,” Sara’s question is pensive. “Are you with us?”
“I am.”
