“If I understand correctly,” Ranell leaned forward and peered down at some of his notes in a folder, "you intended to spend upwards of $350 million annually just to build a 168-kilometer ice road from Schefferville to Strange Lake each winter. Is that right? $350 million to build a hundred-mile road?”
“That’s right,” Laferrière nodded in agreement. “That price includes maintenance costs for a road that melts away every summer. It is a daunting challenge that effectively halts all our ore deliveries and massively disrupts operations.”
“We can operate our airships year-round for a quarter of that price.” Ranell scanned his audience and got the sense they were engaged. Even Ackerman. So, he continued, “GML’s airships are designed to land on any surface, unimproved land, gravel, ice and snow, even water. So year-round operations are absolutely obtainable."
Sensing that he was telling this audience what they wanted to hear, he continued. “You knew a lot of that already, but have you considered this?” C’mon, take the bait, Ranell implored silently. I need this! "With no roads and no runways required, our airships eliminate the need for costly ground-level infrastructure.
“Makes sense to me,” Ackerman grunted.
Ranell sensed in that moment that he’d just landed the deal.
